The Leelanau Children's Center:
-
offers a center-based early childhood education program for toddlers and preschoolers in Northport and Leland
-
mainstreams special education and non-English speaking students
-
tracks the development of the center-based toddlers and preschoolers using research-based assessment tools
-
tracks the development of participating infants and toddlers who are served through outreach using a research-based assessment tool
-
screens children’s development using a variety of screening instruments
-
offers parents regular contact with teachers through home visits, parent-teacher conferences and monthly newsletters
-
offers regular home visits to any parents in the Leland or Northport School Districts. Home visits offer child development or parenting information and resource and referral assistance
-
offers regular parent education sessions
-
provides tuition assistance to eligible families
-
partners with Head Start and the Michigan Department of Education to provide a wide range of supports to eligible families
-
offers parents many involvement and leadership opportunities through fundraisers, committees, board members and parent participation
-
works collaboratively with county and regional human service agencies and schools
-
provides model early childhood programming, offering support to other early childhood programs
-
provides ongoing individualized and group staff development based on best practices, research and local needs
-
staff are expected to have at a minimum a Child Development Associate degree, and encouraged to earn a teaching certificate with ZS endorsement
